Sheiba Chardonnay is of Maine Coon breed and on October 26, 2001 was rescued from the Bay County Humane Society and indoctrinated into the Panama City Beach Police Department. Sheiba is not only the Departments Mascot but, a fulltime member of the Department's Administrative Division.  Chief of Police Robert Harding proposed a program within the Department during a time when the Bay County Humane Society had an over abundance of orphaned dogs and cats and was not really sure they could maintain its then present status of care and placement of these animals. The initial proposal was to have the Department adopt a needy animal, which might lead the way for other local Law Enforcement or Government Agencies to follow, therefore assisting the humane society in finding good homes for these animals. On behalf of Chief Harding, the Panama City Beach Police Department encourages all local agencies as well as private citizens to assist in this type of program whether it be by donation of time, a monetary donation or the adoption of a needy animal. If anyone is interested in developing such a program as this please contact the Bay County Humane Society.
