Field Training

The department currently has 10 Field Training Officers. Their primary responsibilities include the training of all new recruits in the various aspects of the field of law enforcement as well as all the departmental policies and procedures. New recruits are also exposed to and familiarized with the operations of the S.R.O. program as well as the K9 program. Minimum requirements for this position is 2 years field experience and an above average job performance. The program currently involves a 14 week training period and consists of training in communications, investigations, and patrol techniques.

Each newly hired officer is required to complete an in-depth 14 week training program which includes not only the academics of law enforcement, but practical street survival skills as well. Once the officer has completed this program, he or she is issued a fully equipped patrol vehicle where they are trained in the highly technical field of emergency vehicle operations.
