Deputy Chief of Police

Major David W. Humphreys Jr., a veteran with the Panama City Beach
Police Department, is a native of San
Diego, California, a son of a Navy
Commander and his wife, both natives of
Charleston, South Carolina. After 23
years of Naval service, the family
settled in Panama City, Florida. The
Deputy Chief attended local schools,
including Bay High School and Gulf Coast Community
College. He joined the Panama City
Beach Police Department Auxiliary
program in 1982, was hired in a
temporary position in 1983, and was
accepted for full-time employment in
1984. Major Humphreys worked as a
Communications Officer, a Patrol
Officer, managed the Field Training
Program and Traffic Homicide Program,
served as a Patrol Supervisor, Criminal
Investigator, and as the Special
Operations Inspector prior to being
appointed as Deputy Chief of Police when
Chief Harding assumed command. The duties of Deputy Chief of
Police include all areas of the Panama
City Beach Police Department. The
primary duties are managing the Patrol
and Investigative Division Commanders as
well as Administrative and Support
personnel. He additionally manages all
Internal Affairs matters, Risk
Management and Public Relations/Media
Representative. He assists the Chief of
Police in many other tasks on a daily
basis. |
