Bicycle Patrol

The Panama City Beach Police Department`s Bicycle Patrol Unit addresses the problems of crime within the local business districts. Major emphasis will be placed on community policing and crime prevention techniques.
The unit engages in proactive patrol in an effort to reduce crime by high visibility, presence, and enforcement activity. This is accomplished while being flexible enough to respond to specific problems identified by citizens, crime analysis, and the officers themselves. This flexibility extends beyond the traditional approaches to problem solving. It includes, but is not limited to: foot patrol, bicycle patrol to increase coverage, cooperative efforts with area business associations, and close work with other city departments via mutual aid.
The major advantage held by our foot/bicycle patrol officers is their face-to-face contact with the citizens. The Bicycle Patrol Unit strives to make the most of this advantage by favorable contacts with citizens who live and work in not only business areas but within the many local neighborhoods. The Bicycle Patrol Unit embodies the best of the one-on-one contact of the historical "beat officer" with the benefits of the latest community policing initiatives. The Bicycle Patrol Officer strives to be completely familiar with their area and to facilitate a positive community / law enforcement relationship with persons in the area by being known and accessible to those persons.
